Ramos Pinto makes several single-quinta ports, capturing the special qualities of each vineyard in the wine. Quinta de Ervamoira is located in the Douro Superior, situated on the left bank of the Douro River where it meets the Côa River, and is the winery’s experimental vineyard. Here, 240 acres of vines are planted vertically, a departure from the traditional terraced rows stepping horizontally up the steep slopes rising from the river. Vertical planting allows closer spacing of vines, which results in less fruit per plant but more concentrated fruit flavors. Per-vine production is decreased while overall production by hectare goes up. Like most of the land along the Douro, the soil at Ervamoira is schistous and very poor.
Made from high quality wines of the Quinta de Ervamoira by blending harvests of, on average, 10 different years. The new wines make it robust and fresh while the oldest wines give it complexity and lineage. Its characteristic aroma and palate are the result of the artistry achieved by their winemaker.

90 POINTS, YEAR’S BEST TAWNY PORTS
December 2019, Joshua Greene
“Fresh flavors of apricot and golden plum fatten this wine, balancing its notes of wood and brandy. It’s warm, spicy and clean, ready to serve at cellar temperature with sheep’s milk cheeses.”

“The NV Quinta da Ervamoira RP 10 Year Old Tawny Port is a typical field blend aged in vats. It was bottled in February 2018 with 114 grams of residual sugar and a bar-top cork. This is pretty much on par with the last release I saw (the 2015 bottling). Lush, complex and concentrated (relative to a 10 Year Tawny), this focused tawny performs beautifully. The finish is bright, spicy and sweet. The pricing may be better on the “street,” as this is just a list price (“suggested retail”), but this is a 10 Year Tawny that delivers.”

“Pretty, with sandalwood, warm raisin and toffee hints weaving around a core of gently mulled cherry and plum fruit flavors. The sandalwood edge extends through the stylish finish. Drink now. 687 cases imported.”
