The Vineyard
Faced with severe drought, the challenging conditions of the 2018 harvest resulted in one of the smallest yields in years. Yet despite the significant difficulties, the cooler ripening period and smaller crops produced berries with concentrated flavour and intense colour providing wines of notable quality.
From the oldest vineyards on the Estate, the Delaire Graff Banghoek Reserve Merlot is a raconteur weaving the tale of the property’s humble beginnings. Expressions of the site’s splendour, with its rich earthiness and bountiful fruit, are interwoven as flavours of warm spice are enriched with dark plum.
The Harve
The grapes were handpicked in the early hours of the morning from the Estate’s oldest single vineyard.
The Cellar
Matured in 80% new French oak for 16 months, its serene beauty is personified by silky tannins yielding a luxurious elegance.
The Merlot was vinified with care and passion. Extensive sorting of the grapes formed part of the quality management process. The grapes were de-stemmed only, not crushed, to ensure gentle extraction of fruit flavours. Punch downs only and matured for 16 months in 80% new French oak barrels.
