Bernadotte is a Haut-Médoc property located in the town of Saint Sauveur, at a place called Le Fournas. Its vineyard covers around forty hectares; it runs alongside the Pauillac appellation .
In the tradition of the Médoc, Château Bernadotte mainly produces red wines . Heir to the best of wine culture and civilization, Château Bernadotte skilfully combines the contributions of modern technologies in the service of tradition. To keep or to keep, its good, well-made and sharing wines are appreciated all over the world.
A unique Cru Bourgeois wine that continues to rise over the vintages, Château Bernadotte is renewing itself and distinguishes itself both by its visionary spirit and by its environmentally friendly and innovative management. There is no or very little use of chemical fertilizer, replaced by the contribution of natural organic matter. The techniques remain traditional and incorporate strict control of yields. The harvest, entirely manual until 2015, is now accompanied by the machine.
Located on the 45th parallel halfway between the North Pole and the Equator, Bordeaux should have the New York climate which would make the region unsuitable for growing vines. But benevolent nature decided otherwise by bringing to our Atlantic shores the Gulf Stream, this warm current that comes from the Caribbean, making our winters mild and our summers pleasant. Thus, Bordeaux grape varieties can ripen properly, protected from temperature variations. The presence of the Gironde estuary and the forest reinforces the climatic regulation of the appellation.
The Harvest
Bernadotte is divided into referenced plots, each of which has its own history: provenance and acquisition, grape variety , year of planting, rootstock, yield, selection in the blend of previous vintages.
While the INAO authorizes a yield of 55 hectoliters per hectare in the Haut-Médoc appellation, the ten-year average yield of Château Bernadotte does not exceed 47 hectoliters per hectare. This deliberate choice of lower yield guarantees quality and preserves the vine, its balance and longevity.
Scientists agree that the vine gives its best result when it is at its geographical limit.
This is how the grapes concentrate all their tannins, their aromas and their coloring. And this is precisely the case in Haut-Médoc , because the fruit takes time to ripen.
The situation is ideal for the two major grape varieties that we plant Cabernet-Sauvignon (51%) , Merlot (48%) in perfect harmony with the terroir.
